Using your sticker

Put it on your desk, tap your phone on it, and the study timer opens. That's it. No app and no account.

Setting it up

  1. Put it where you study. The cork bottom stops it sliding, so you can take it to the library too. Wood, plastic or glass tables work best.
  2. Unlock your phone and hold it flat on the sticker for a second.
  3. Tap the pop-up that shows up. The timer opens.
  4. Turn on Do Not Disturb, pick your time, and flip your phone over.
Open the timer now

It didn't open?

Which part of my phone do I tap?

iPhone: the top edge of the back, near the camera.

Android: usually the middle of the back. It's different on some models, so slide your phone around slowly over the sticker.

I have an iPhone and nothing happens

Your screen has to be on and unlocked. iPhone XR, XS and newer read the sticker on their own.

On an iPhone 7, 8 or X, open Control Center and tap the NFC Tag Reader button first. If you don't see it, add it in Settings, Control Center.

I have an Android and nothing happens

Make sure NFC is on. Go to Settings and search "NFC", then turn it on. Your screen has to be unlocked.

A few cheaper Android phones don't have NFC at all. If yours doesn't, save the timer to your home screen instead (see below).

It works on my desk at home but not at school

Metal can stop the signal. If the desk, table or laptop under the sticker is metal and it won't open, put it on a wood or plastic surface, or put a notebook under it.

Thick phone cases, metal phone rings and card wallets on the back of your phone can block it too.

I didn't hear the sound when the timer ended

The timer has to stay open for the sound to play. If you lock your phone or switch apps, it can't make a sound, but it still logs your session when you come back. On older phones, silent mode can block it too.

If you want to be sure, also set a timer in your Clock app for the same time.

Save it to your home screen

Good if your phone doesn't have NFC, or you want the timer when you're away from your desk.

Extra for iPhone: turn on Focus with the tap

The sticker can't change your settings by itself (phones block that for safety). But iPhones can do it with the free Shortcuts app.

  1. Open Shortcuts and go to Automation.
  2. Tap New Automation, then NFC.
  3. Tap Scan, hold your phone on the sticker, and name it.
  4. Pick Run Immediately.
  5. Add the action "Set Focus" and set Do Not Disturb to On.
  6. Add the action "Open URLs" and paste in our timer link.

Now one tap turns on Do Not Disturb and opens the timer. Menu names can change a bit between iOS versions.

We don't track you

Your sessions and streak stay on your phone. We don't have accounts, ads or tracking, so we never see when or how much you study.
